What to pack? El Hierro
What to pack?

The climate in El Hierro is mild all year round, but be prepared for the different landscapes and activities on the island. If you are traveling in winter, don't forget to bring light warm clothes, especially if you plan to visit mountainous areas such as El Pinar. During the rest of the year, comfortable shoes are essential to enjoy the hiking trails that crisscross the island. Also, don't forget your swimsuit and towel! The natural pools and beaches of El Hierro are perfect for a dip in its crystal clear waters.

It all started...

In February 1999, Fred. Olsen Express made an important breakthrough when it announced a new route connecting Tenerife with El Hierro. With this new line, the company expanded its inter-island communications network, this time to the westernmost point of the archipelago. The ferry Bañaderos, which at that time operated between La Palma, Tenerife and Gran Canaria, was in charge of establishing the connection between the port of La Estaca in El Hierro and Tenerife.

New incorporations

Later, the slow vessels were replaced by modern fast ferries and with a balance of more than one million passengers transported, Fred. Olsen Express connected El Hierro for 15 years.

It's not goodbye, it's see you soon.

And although 2013 was the last year in which this maritime line operated, it always kept on its horizon to resume connections with the southernmost island of the Canary Islands. And so it happened!

Currently...

Now we are pleased to announce that, as of December 31, 2024, Fred. Olsen Express will resume operations between Tenerife and El Hierro.

El Sabinar

One of the most emblematic landscapes of El Hierro. This unique forest of twisted junipers, shaped by the wind and the passage of time, offers a magical view of the natural environment of the island. It is a perfect place for hiking and marvel at the beauty of a landscape that seems to be taken from a fairy tale.

Roque de la Bonanza

Roque de la Bonanza, in the south of El Hierro, is another of the island's great natural treasures. This impressive volcanic monolith rises majestically above the sea, creating a spectacular view. From the nearby viewpoint, you can enjoy a breathtaking panorama that will take your breath away.

Faro de Orchilla

Located at the westernmost tip of El Hierro. Historically known as the “end of the world” before the discoveries of America, and where the Zero Meridian was established until 1884 when it was moved to Greenwich. It is an excellent place to enjoy breathtaking sunsets, capture memorable photos and explore the volcanic landscape.

Piscinas naturales

They are one of the island's most unique treasures. Formed by volcanic lava and located along the coast, these pools offer a natural and quiet environment for swimming and relaxing. Places such as Charco Azul and La Maceta stand out.

Miradores

The viewpoints of El Hierro offer exceptional panoramic views of the volcanic and coastal landscape of the island. Highlights include the famous Mirador de La Peña, the Mirador de Bascos with panoramic views of the ravines and mountains of the north, the Mirador de la Llanía, with green and mountainous landscapes of the central area and the Calcosas with dramatic views of the cliffs and the sea.

La Restinga

This corner of the island combines natural beauty with exciting opportunities to explore the underwater world. From lava formations that create a dramatic and fascinating environment, to being a popular diving destination, offering some of the best dive sites in the Canary Islands, with crystal clear waters and rich marine life.
